History

The origins of the Priory of San Martín date back to the 11th-11th century, when it was a Benedictine Monastery. In the twelfth century King Alfonso VII donated it to the Abbot of the Monastery of San Martín de Santiago de Compostela but his son-in-law Don Raimundo de Burgundy, husband of Doña Urraca, appointed Governor General of Galicia and personal friend of Archbishop Xelmírez begged the king that revoke your donation and then donated it to Xelmírez. After a few years San Martín Pinario managed to return and was in his custody for centuries, first as a Monastery and then as Priory. It was destined for the forestry farm of San Martín and according to tradition as a correctional house. From this time there is only the domed part, which should have been a chapel or oratory of the small Monastery or “Monasteriale” as the medieval Romanesque documents call it. Currently it can be seen that all the stones are numbered by the stonecutters who worked in their building. In the fifteenth – sixteenth century it became a rural parish being the patrimony of the Royal Collegiate Church of Santa María de Sar and in the XVI – XVII a New construction that comes to our day. At the moment its aspect is the one of a stately house with Renaissance facade, on which it emphasizes a great armera stone without sculpting.

Excellent site, total disconnection less than 15 'from Santiago. The style and warmth. It is a house with a lot of history. But most of all I liked the friendliness of the staff. Always very attentive to us!

Spectacular. We stayed a week in August at the Priory and it has been incredible. The place is beautiful and very relaxed. The hotel has a thousand corners to abstract and rest from the routine. The breakfasts are the best I have ever tasted. And Maria's attention is unbeatable, she is always attentive to what we needed.
